[Speak English] Weekly Practice (0210) – Giving a Gift to Someone

Lunar New Year’s Day를 맞이하여 조카들 선물을 준비하고 있는 Sammy! 도대체 선물을 얼마나 사려고 그러는 걸까요? 걱정스런 Sammy를 보면서 Mr. Kim이 간편한 방법을 제시해 주시만  Sammy는 정성 어린 선물을 주려고 합니다. 그럼 이번 주 Key Expressions 을 공부해 볼까요?

   -  I have to find the most economical way. : ~하는 방법은 ‘a way to 동사원형 또는 ‘how to 동사원형’ 입니다. 여기에서 ‘economical’경제적인’의 뜻입니다. 경제의 라는 말은 ‘economic’이겠지요!
   - I really want to give them some meaningful and heartfelt gifts. : ‘의미 있고  진심 어린’은 meaningful and heartfelt 입니다.
   - You’re trying to be a good holiday role model! : role model은 귀감입니다. 따라서 명절날의 훌륭한 귀감을 ‘a good holiday role model’이라고 하겠지요.

Mr. Kim : What are you doing?   (뭐하세요?)
Sammy : I’m making a name list to give a gift for this lunar New Year’s day.  As you know, I have 10 nephews and nieces. So, I have to find the most economical way.  
                 (이번 음력설날에 선물 할 사람들의 명단을 만들고 있어요. 저에게는 10명의 조카들이 있거든요. 그래서 가장 절약할 수 있는 방법을 찾아야 해요. )
Mr. Kim : What about giving them some money? These days, kids are materialistic.
                (그렇다면 돈을 주지 그래요? 요즘 애들이 물질적이잖아요)
Sammy : I thought about that, but I really want to give them some meaningful and heartfelt gifts.
                (그렇게도 생각을 했지만 의미 있고 진심 어린 선물을 하고 싶어요)
Mr. Kim : Wow! You are trying to be a good holiday role model!
                (와우, 당신은 명절에 훌륭한 귀감이 되려고 하네요!)
