기존의 IS연구의 시각에서는 연구의 한계가 명확해 보인다.
IT가 조직에 영향을 준다는 Variance Theory 중심의 접근이 실제로 IS Discipline에 도움이 된다고 보긴 어렵다는 이야기를 열심히 하는중. 연구가 한쪽으로 편엽하게 진행되고 너무 다양하게 진행되어 연구 자체의 틀을 바꿔야 한다는 생각을 가지고 있다.

맞는 말이다. 아직 써보진 않았지만.. 그러나 실제로 적용해서 연구를 진행하려한다면 쉬운 일은 아닌듯 하다.

Overview : Organizational Consequences of IT

본 논문은 IT-조직에 대한 전통적 Framework에 따른 Diversity를 극복하기 위해 Revised Framework을 제시함    

 

Traditional Framework

•      “What are antecedents and consequences of changes?”

•      Associates IT as an independent variable with dependent variable of organizational impacts

•      Suggests predominant deterministic logic of IT as a transforming agent

 

Diversity

•      Diversity of Empirical Findings : Frequently, IT’s impacts are unpredictable and often resist even post hoc explanation

•      Dealing with Diversity : Traditional approach is to improve research methodologies – or renew theoretical tools 

 

Revised Framework

•      Process Theory– focuses on how change emerge develop, grow or terminate

•      Alternative Theoretical Logic– argues for complex relationship between IT and organizations

•      Multilevel Perspective– considers multiple levels of analysis simultaneously

 

Traditional Framework for Research on Organizational Consequences of IT

전통적 Framework은 IT를 비롯한 독립변수가 조직에 영향을 가져온다는 Variance Theory에 기반하고 있음

Diversity of Empirical Findings

실증적으로는 독립변수와 종속변수 간의 관계도 일관되지 않으며 유사 연구 간에도 불일치한 결과를 보이고 있음  

Dealing with Diversity

변수 추가 등 연구방법 개선을 통한 대응도 가능하나 본 논문에서는 Framework 자체를 개선하는 방안을 제시함   

Revised Framework : New Theoretical Perspectives

IT 등의 독립변수가 변화 Process를 거침으로써 다양한 차원의 조직적 결과를 가져온다는 개선 Framework임
